Band Making Headlines, Angels And Airwaves

Looking at this bands picture many of you may recognize the front man, Tom Delonge as the former singer and guitarist of Blink 182. He's back with a vengeance and creating music reminiscent to Blink but with a twist.

Angels and Airwaves came together to make their 2006 debut with "We Don't Need To Whisper" and quickly gained interest. Currently they're seeing success with the hit "Everything's magic" which is off their most recent album "I-Empire."



PureVolume.com intereviewed Delonge and he said this album is "a hybrid of everything about alternative music that I grew up listening to, like punk rock music and new wave." Personally, I love new wave and bits of punk rock so I think I'm just going to have to buy this album.

Of course MSN music showed me that no band's career runs smoothly so unfortunately the bassist Ryan Sinn left the band. But in no time was replaced with 30 Seconds To Mars' Matt Wachter. Which only leads me to think, "Did 30 Seconds To Mars have troubles too?" Only time will tell.

Although relatively young, Angels and Airwaves consists of experienced musicians and their show is guaranteed to be one you want to catch. They're coming to Revolution in Fort Lauderdale Tuesday Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m. And tickets are only $26.50.

Barry Manilow Takin' It Slow

Yea I decided to bring it down a few notches for this one. That's because a legend is coming to South Florida and he goes by the name of Barry Manilow

Born in 1946 this performer reached his heyday in the late 1970's but his music still resonates today.

He's very well known for his ballads and probably his most popular "Mandy." Songs like that make me want to change my name. Which interestly enough he did. Born Barry Alan Pincus he adopted his mother's maiden name after I read on Yahoo! Music that his father left him at a young age.

He began playing music at a very young age and by the age of 18 he was accepted into the Julliard School of Music which he paid for by working in the CBS mailroom. He actually became the musical director of the stations show "Callback" and supported himself by writing and performing such high-profile jingles for State Farm, Dr. Pepper, McDonald's and Kentucky Fried Chicken.

He didn't make his big break until getting hired as Bette Midler's pianist. Not long after he got his own record deal but he didn't reach complete fame until his 1974 album "Barry Manilow II." Since then he's seen a bit of failure when in the 1980's his work didn't receive the same attention. But he's remained a music mogul and is still releasing work today.


For all you Barry fans you can catch him Feb. 23, 2008 at the Bank Atlantic Center at 8 p.m. Tickets can be a big pricey but many are still affordable.

I'm Tired Of Chop Suey, Let's Eat Foo Fighters

Ok...Ok...I'm super excited about this next blog. I can't believe the Foo Fighets are coming to town. And not only that, but they're being accompanied by Jimmy Eat World and Against Me! This is a show I don't want to miss.

For the unwise music souls Dave Grohl, lead singer of the Foo Fighters, used to be the drummer of the band Nirvana. So he has a lot of experience rocking out.

The Foo Fighters came together in 1995 after the death of Kurt Cobain. But Grohl didn't all of the sudden think, "oh now I'm starting a band." He actually had been working on his solo career for quite a while. But instead of moving on to make music alone, he decided to form a band.

He met and asked Sunny Day Real Estate's bassist and drummer to join, as well as Nirvana's former guitarist Pat Smear. Together, they became the Foo Fighters. Now, I had no idea why they decided on this name. But AOL Music gave me the low down. Apparently in World War II there was a special unit that allegedly researched UFO's. Genius I tell you!

They were signed to Capitol Records in 1995 and a year later their album was certified platinum in the U.S. Unfortunately, drummer William Goldsmith left the band due to tensions but was replaced by Taylor Hawkins. And shortly after their 1997 album was released, guitarist Pat Smear left and was replaced by Franz Stahl who also left after a short time. He was then replaced by Chris Shiflett and since then there hasn't been a trace of doubt for anyone leaving.


The Foo Fighters most recent album, "Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace" was released this past year and their first single "The Pretender" has become a favorite of mine.

Celebrate their 12 years together by seeing them live Wednesday Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. at the Bank Atlantic Center. Tickets are on sale now starting at $22.25.

Keith Urban: Heading Toward The Sunrise

Keith Urban, as many of us know, is married to the lovely Nicole Kidman. But do we really know him other than the fact he's linked to a gorgeous movie start?

Mr. Urban actually grew up in Australia where CMT.com wrote, he listened to country music because of his parents love of American culture. He receieved his first guitar at age 6 and in less than two years he was winning country music contests. Child prodigy if you ask me!

When he finally made the move to Nashville, Tennessee he threw bands together making a name for himself and eventually was asked to play on Garth Brooks "Double Live" and the Dixie Chicks "Fly."

I guess in the past country music stars had that clean cut down home kind've look. But Urban came with a grungy down under appearance which eventually was accepted with the release of his 2000 self-titled debut album.

He's seen such success with his follow up album in 2002 and he was given the CMA Male Vocalist Award followed by the Entertainer of the Year Award in 2005.

Although relatively new to the music scene Keith Urban has earned himself a large following and even though he went through a stint of addiction to alcohol, he came out on top with the release of "Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing."

I feel like standing up and giving this guy a big round of applause. It's not easy being in the public eye going through a tough time. Maybe we can show our appreciation by seeing him Saturday Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. He'll be in Sunrise at the Bank Atlantic Center with special guest Gary Allan. Tickets range from $17.25 to $56.75 and will most likely disappear quickly.

Chris Brown Can "Run It" When He Hears A Bow Wow Coming His Way

Young and talented. Those two words come to mind when thinking of R&B crooner Chris Brown and hip-hop star Bow Bow...notice I didn't added "LiL."


This two young men are gracing us with their presence Wednesday Dec. 26 in Fort Lauderdale and I can't wait.

Chris Brown hails from a small town in Virginia called Tappahannock which leads me to one question. How the heck did he break out of there to become the first male solo artist to release a single that went straight to the top of the Billboard singles chart? Not to mention, he was only 16 when he achieved this! I tell you, MSN Music gives me some great sources.

After coming of age he developed the voice we all know and love and eventually signed with Jive Records. If you've seen him perform live on on Mtv you definitely can tell there's a difference in the way he moves now to when he first started his career. People say he can't take Usher's place but I don't know about that. He definitely can move just as well and has a voice to die for.

Now, Bow Wow on the other hand became one of the youngest hip-hop stars to achieve success. He was born in Reynoldsburg, Ohio and began working with artist and producer Jermain Dupri.

In 2000 Bow Wow released his debut album "Beware of Dog" with such hit singles as "Bounce with Me" and "Bow Wow." I happen to love the first of the two.

On YahooMusic!I read that after switching to Columbia Record Label his fans noticed a more mature sound from his music. Not sure if they got the memo, but he definitely isn't a kid anymore.

Both young men possess great musical ability and it's amazing they achieved success so young. I'm just excited to see what they come out with next!

Pink Floyd Cover Band Lights Up The Stage

When I hear the name Pink Floyd nothing but good things flood my mind. I grew up listening to these guys (thanks to my father) and in some weird way I feel like they've shaped my childhood.

It was 1965 and London was in the middle of its swingin' 60s era when four young men decided to put their heads together and make music only to be described as Avante-Garde. But before I go on I have to say, isn't just amazing to see bands still together after 40 years of music-making?

Anyway, I had no idea how or why they got their name but MSN music gave me the downlow. Basically, they took two first names from ancient bluesmen, PINK Anderson and FLOYD Council.

I learned that at first the music springing from their instruments wasn't exactly reminiscent of their later, more outlandish songs but instead stuck to the typical "rock and R&B material that were so common to the repertoires of mid-'60s British bands." It wasn't until they began experimenting did they find their own tune and thank God they did. I don't know what I'd do without "A Brick In The Wall" or "Dark Side of the Moon."

Unfortunately as many bands moved into the 1980s their type of music wasn't well received. For example, the 1983 release of "The Final Cut" had "little of the electronic innovation so typical of their previous work" as AOL music puts it.

As most of know however, the REAL Pink Floyd has vowed never to work together again but you can still get your fix by buying tickets to The Australian Pink Floyd show. Yes sorry to burst your bubble but trust me, these guys are actually pretty good.

Catch them December 1 in Miami at the Jackie Gleason Theater at 8 p.m. Tickets range $35 to $47.50 which isn't really that bad. If you won't go I will!

Fuel Is Coming...Don't Get Trapt!

It seems like nowadays everyone is teaming up! We see it again with Trapt and Fuel but hey, I'm not complaining!

Trapt formed in Los Gatos, CA in 1995 which was during the height of the grunge era. Remember flannel and unwashed oily hair? I've been trying to forget. However, the quad broke away from the norm and deviated towards heavy metal.

On MSN music I found that they actually opened up for such bands as Papa Roach, Dredg and Spike 1000 all before high school graduation! Unfortunately, as good little boys do they each went away to college but even with the pressures of school they managed to release their third album in 2000. Not long later though, they decided to fully pursue their musical careers and head to Los Angeles.

As fate would have it, the boys were recognized and signed by Warner Bros. after performing a 9/11 benefit concert. Bam! There ya have it! Everything fell into place and now we have such great hits from them as "Headstrong."


Now on the other hand, Fuel has been together since 1989 which makes me feel young again considering I was only three when they formed.

I grew up hearing their hits and really didn't know much about them but what I found on Yahoo! music was that they debuted in 1996 with an independent disc which sold 10,000 copies. Not too shabby for a first go if you ask me!

After getting recognized for their EP they released their second album, "Something Like Human" which had the track "Hemorrage (In My hands)" and let me tell you. That song does NOT get old! It even reached 17 on the Billboard charts!

Currently, Fuel has seen a change in the tides with the "amicable" departure of lead singer Brett Scallions but have since found a replacement. Only time will tell if their next release will be as successful as those with Scallions but I'm going to remain optimistic about this one.

Take A Dip With Drowning Pool

It seems as if I've been writing about bands who have struggled during their music career. But after thinking about it, doesn't a band HAVE to go through tough times in order to come out with inspirational music?



The band Drowning Pool knows what it's like to fall down and be picked back up again. In 2002 former lead singer, Dave Williams passed away due to a rare heart disease. This of course was a blow to the entire group but not once did they stop and give up on their music. Currently, close friend and singer Ryan McCombs rounds out the quad allowing Drowning Pool to come back with a vengeance. The entire article is on their website.

From the beginning it seems the bands success has been a whirlwind. I read on Yahoo! music that they formed in Dallas, Texas in the early 2000's and when a copy of their demo reached supergroup Sevendust they were invited to perform on their tour. This of course led to more exposure and even more tours.

After honing their sound on the road, Drowning Pool was signed to Windup Records and of course success followed with their first album Sinner. Yahoo! music also informed me that their single 'Bodies' was one of the most shown videos aired on Mtv by a new band at the time. I personally like the song but it's not for the faint of heart. The chorus is yelled "Let the bodies hit the floor." Hmmmm....

For anyone who really enjoys heavy metal Drowning Pool would be a great show to see. They're coming to Revolution in Fort Lauderdale Thursday Nov. 15. The show starts at 7 p.m. and the tickets are only $16!

Hellogoodbye! Wait! Before you go...Say Anything!

Two poppy rock inspired bands are coming to the Fillmore in Miami Nov. 7 and guess who they are? That's right! Hellogoodbye and Say Anything will be sporting their cute nerd images tonight.

Hellogoodbye hails from Long Beach, CA where the sun is always shining and you can definitely feel that in their songs. I think Yahoo! music says it all when describing their music as a "playful brand of indie power pop infused with sugary sweetness, catchy dance beats, and enough energy to tire a group of five-year-olds." Yep that about does it.

If you haven't heard any of their songs I suggest you get right on it! My personal fav was a hit entitled "Here In Your Arms" and let me tell you, it definitely encompasses a mix of the 80's era...which I absolutely LOVE!

Hellogoodbye only came together in 2002 but over these past five years they have honed their sound and continue to make new fans.

On the opposite end of the spectrum Say Anything produces music with a little bit more of an edge. I personally know them as a bunch of horny teenagers but in reality...wait they kind've are.

As I read on Yahoo! music the band is kind've like Menudo in a way. Members in the past rotated in and out until about 2004 when the current line up came together.

Now consisting of six uber cute young men, Say Anything is a powerhouse of pop-punk and overcame singer/songwriter of the group, Max Bemis' downfall with bi-polar disorder. Again, Yahoo! music was my source when I found out they had to cancel two tours in 2005 to deal with the issue. Thankfully, they were able to sort things out and re-release the original album along with a bonus EP.

Again, if you haven't ever listened to them you should consider starting to. Two hits they've had are "Alive With The Glory Of Love" and "Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too." I personally enjoy that second title.

I know this has been a long one but with two great bands playing in South Florida I just couldn't resist. Don't forget to buy your tickets!

Everyone Loves A Widespread Panic!

I have to say, when researching for the band 'Widespread Panic' I expected black clad middle-aged rockers but what I got were clean-cut soccer dad types. I soon realized though that clothing does not make the band.

You know, I've found that using such sites as AOL or Yahoo you can find some really useful information on your favorite artists. I was searching for info on the band who, mind you are playing at The Fillmore in Miami tonight Nov. 6, and discovered that they have been together since 1982! It's not often you find bands who can make it to 10 years let alone over two decades. But I digress.

'Widespread Panic' consists of six members but started out as a duo when vocalist John Bell and guitarist Mike Houser left college in Georgia to focus on music. From then on they've continued to release wonderful albums including their most recent, "Choice Cuts: The Capricorn Years 1991-1999.

Sadly, founding member Mike Houser passed in 2002 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Bell told Bonaroo.com that "There’s not a day that goes by where we don’t miss Mike." "What we learned together as a band continues, with slight adjustments." Even with this huge loss the band never cancelled a show. This goes to show how dedicated they are to their fans. Finally, a band without an ego!

Rascal Flatts Are Filling Out

Although Rascal Flatts got their start in Nashville none of the three members hail from Tennesee. After reading their Country Music Television biography I found out that both Gary LeVox (Lead singer) and Jay DeMarcus (Bassist) actually grew up in Ohio and later met Oklahoma native and lead guitarist Joe Don Rooney at a bar.

Their self-titled first album was a success in 2000 sending three of their songs into the top 10 and they've seen such successes since then. Their most recent album, 'Still Feels Good' sprouted the hit 'Take Me There' which debuted at No. 24 on the charts which I found on the Great American Country site. I actually had never heard of it but my boyfriend who happens to be from a country-ridden town in northern Florida, explained that it's just like the CMT. Thanks Eric!



Anyway, I decided to look on their official website and I'd like to say it's very well put together. But the point is, is that if you check out their biography on the site you can learn a heck of a whole lot. For instance, I now know that these guys seem genuine and are all about their fans. LeVox had said, "We've worked really hard from day one and we know who employs us. It's the fans, and we've tried to give back to them musically what they've given us. We love them like they love us." This I feel deserves an Awwww!

What more could you want? Rascal Flatts are moving on up in the music business and I think they deserve every bit of success they receive.

Don't forget to see them at the Sound Advice Ampitheater in West Palm Beach Saturday Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. These boys are quite the commodity!

Bayside Is Not Falling By The Way Side

Are you talkin' to me?

No...I'm not really. But when I discovered that Bayside was from New York I had to get my DeNiro on.

Although Bayside has been together since 2000, they are just starting to get recognized as an up and coming band. Their latest album The Walking Wounded, has rocketed these boys to fame and they're currently on tour. Next stop, Club Revolution in Fort Lauderdale and let me tell you, I'm on board!

While reading about them on Pure Volume I found out that this is their fourth album and that they were inspired by the tragic car accident which took drummer John Holohan's life. Guitarist Anthony Raneri explained that the album is about "overcoming the physical and emotional scars in life." To read more about this check out the article.

What I found really interesting though about Bayside is that they support the cause To Write Love On Her Arms. The reason is, is because my friend told me all about this organization and I had never really seen it anywhere. The purpose of the organization is to help teens and young adults out of depression and addiction which I found on the offical website. I am so inspired by artists who do more than just give their music to the people. They give a piece of themselves to aid others they may never meet.

With all that Bayside has gone through they haven't ceased to please their fans. Their Victory tour is going on strong and won't be done until Dec. 8 allowing fans to catch them all over the country.

Catch Bayside along with June, The Sleeping, A Day To Remember and Driver Side Impact Saturday Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. at Club Revolution. This is guaranteed to be a crazy and exciting show and all for only $12!

Jennifer Lopez And Marc Anthony=Match Made In Miami.

This celebrity couple secretly married in 2004 as I read on BBC Entertainment. I'm actually very surprised yet happy that they have stuck it out this long. Especially when knowing JLo's track record about her previous relationships.

JLo who released her sixth album Oct. 9 told the BBC that "All my albums are about love, ever since the first one. But they're all about different times in love." I guess that makes sense. I wonder what time in love she's in right now? Anyway, she and her hubby Marc Anthony are currently touring together and they will be making their South Florida premiere Friday Nov. 2 at the American Airlines Arena in Miami at 8 p.m. But hold up! Not only will they be performing Friday, they will also be here Saturday Nov. 3 and Wednesday Nov. 7 too! I guess they really love us!

Marc Anthony has seen success throughout his long career and most recently with his movie featuring his wife, "El Cantante." I personally love his music though. Who can forget "I Need To Know?" It came out during the rise of latin music popularity. You know, when Ricky Martin was king?

Basically, these two together will make you sweat. From what I've seen on T.V. their performances are non-stop fun and I can only imagine how they must be live.

Now's your chance to see them though. Get your tickets now because the Lord knows they're going to sell fast. Especially in South Florida.

I WIll Bow Down To The Kings Of Leon

Three brothers and one cousin make up the Kings of Leon which is actually kinda cute. You don't see very often today family working together. But this quad knows how to rock it.

The Kings of Leon are actually coming to South Florida Friday Nov. 2 to perform at Revolution. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and should be one you don't want to miss.




The KOL's third album came out in the beginning of this year as I read on Wikipedia and they're actually working on their fourth album already! Drummer, Nathan Followil told NME "Man, we're sitting on a bunch of songs right now that we wish we could let the world hear!". Guess that explains it then! Actually, right now I'm really liking their song "Fans" and "Charmer" isn't bad either. To hear these songs and a few more check out their MySpace page. Ah MySpace is great.

One more thing that excites me about these guys is that they're pretty young. Their ages range from 28 to 20. Not bad if ya know what I mean. I just might have to make it out to see them...I'll be sure to wear my best heels. Wink Wink.

Deaf, Blind and Mute Math

Mute Math has been growing a steady fan base since they formed together in 2003 in New Orleans. And this past summer, I became a fan after hearing their song "Typical. I actually really love it and the video is really creative.

If you haven't ever heard of or checked out the site PureVolume you seriously need to. You can find thousands of artists on there and when looking for Mute Math I found some cool stuff. I now know that vocalist/keyboardist Paul Meany, drummer Darren King, guitarist Greg Hill and bassist Roy Mitchell-Cardenas all grew up together.

Being such a young band means they've had to work extra hard to gain their success but they are known for their non-stop touring and numerous video blogs as I read on PureVolume.com. If you want to hear a little sampling of what they do check out their MySpace page.

If you like what you hear then you definitely should check them out Nov. 1 at Revolution in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Tickets are ONLY $16. I think that's a fair price to pay for an eclectic mix of music.

Fall Out Boy Is Becoming A Man

I know sooo many ladies who absolutely love Fall Out Boy. So much so, that they'd do pretty much anything to meet them. This one time...actually, let's save that for another day. Anyway, all I can say is that this band came out with "Sugar, We're Goin' Down'" in 2005 and from then on they've never ceased to amaze me.



Fall Out Boy formed in suburban Wilmette, Chicago in 2001 after vocalist/guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist/lyricist Pete Wentz, drummer Andrew Hurley and guitarist Joe Trohman met at the underground hardcore scene they were all a part of. It's amazing what AOL Music can tell you...really!

As some of you may or may not know, they also released their popular album "Infinity On High" in Feb. 2007 giving us such hits as "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race." I feel like whatever they do they can't do us wrong. I mean, Pete Wentz even has his own lable and clothing line! If you're a huge fan and you maybe want to dress like Wentz then mosey on down to his Clandestine website.

Nonpoint Is On Point

The band Nonpoint is performing at Revolution in downtown Fort Lauderdale Friday Oct. 26.

What's so cool about them is that they're from Fort Lauderdale. Some of you may be thinking...Uh? What's so cool about that? Well I live in West Palm Beach and if you happen to look on a map you'd notice that we're not that far apart. So there! It's always exciting to me when I find out bands or artists grew up near me.

Anyway, I saw them in concert in 2005 and they rocked the house! There music is categorized as Heavy Metal for the most part but the lead singer, Elias Soriano has a great voice. I happen to love their remake of Phil Collin's "In The Air Tonight." Although it's different from what they normally do, it shows off Elias' great talent.

Just in case some of you were wondering, I found out from MSN music that Nonpoint came together in 1997 after Soriano moved down from his native New Jersey. He then met up with Robbie Rivera, KB and Andy Goldman and the magic happened. Kind've like love at first sight.

Get this! Their brand new album "Vengeance" drops Nov. 6. If you check out their MySpace page you can hear some of their new songs like "March of War." It carries Elias' heavy vocals with some great guitar melodies and some powerful drumming.

Styx and REO Speedwagon...sounds Like Videogames

Styx was formed in Chicago in 1961 and were extremely popular in the 1970s and 1980s with such hits as "Come Sail Away" and "Lady." According to Wikipedia.org they're actually the first band to have four consecutive Multi-Platinum albums.

Unfortunately, the band decided to call it quits in the 1980s due to a divide in what band members wanted. Former lead singer, Dennis DeYoung wanted to take the band in a more theatrical direction however, guitarist Tommy Shaw and keyboardist James Young wanted to move towards a harder-edged sound.

Both DeYoung and Shaw moved on to solo careers and Styx took on new members such as Glen Burtnick who replaced Shaw. Currently the only original member is James Young but the band is still as good as ever!



REO Speedwagon is another great American band. Hailing from the midwest they too were immensely popular in the 1970s and 1980s.

After breaking up in 1988 due to Alan Gratzer's retirement and arguments betwen Gary Richrath and Kevin Cronin the band "unleashed over a dozen compilation albums featuring their greatest hits, including 1999's Ballads, which contained two new tracks." (Wikipedia.org)

With such a background and wonderful hits including "Keep On Loving You" this band is definitely worth seeing.

My Favorite Color Is Maroon 5

I saw Maroon 5 two years ago and it was an amazing show. I can only imagine what they must be like today.

Known for their soul-influenced pop rock this L.A. band has topped the charts with such hits as 'Harder to Breathe' and 'This Love.' Almost everyone I know enjoys listening to them because they're more than just a bunch of sexy studs, they're very talented musicians as well. Lead singer, Adam Levine knows how to entice the ladies with his lyrics and the rest of the group consisting of James Valentine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden and Matt Flynn can create melodies like no other.

Surprisingly, the band members have known each other since Junior High and started playing together as Kara's Flowers in 1995 until changing their name in 2001. (Wikipedia.org)

Maroon 5's first album, 'Songs About Jane' first appeared on shelves in 2002 but after a long awaited second album, the band released 'It Won't Be Soon Before Long,' in May of 2007. It too has risen to success with hits like 'Makes Me Wonder' and 'Wake Up Call.' You can watch the new video here.

Maroon 5 is playing at the BankAtlantic Center in Ft. Lauderdale Saturday Oct. 20. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Opening acts include the Hives and Kevin Michael. Even the opening acts are great!

Yeehaw! Brooks and Dunn are Nothing Short of Good Cornbread.

I personally don't know much about many country singers but I have definitely heard about Brooks and Dunn.

This star duo has been around since 1991 and consists of Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn. According to Wikipedia they both didn't start out as musicians but rather students. After leaving that life they both pursued their music careers eventually leading to their partnership.

Their music is known as modern country and they have produced "chart-topping hits including everything from ballads to rock-tinged up-tempos to the gospel music-influenced "Believe." They are also associated with being pioneers of the line dance craze of the mid-1990s." (Wikipedia.org)

They have 13 albums total and released 'Cowboy Town'in this past year. From their high energy shows to their numerous awards (They've won CMT's Voca Duo Award every year since 1992 minus 2000)Brooks and Dunn remain unstoppable.
